Love and hate on the countertop

There is a lot that goes onto and into our countertops.  Design considerations are one thing, but so is the ability to set down a hot plate -- remarkably important if you entertain.  The point is that the countertop doesn't live by itself.  Marketers want to talk in terms of materials, but they don't tend to talk about food, about the fridge, or about the rest of the house.  That's a missed opportunity.

Kitchen #6

A two-decade trend within newly built homes is an “open floor plan”. I was never a fan of this design until I became a parent. It’s true what they say “People live in their kitchens”...Maybe this is also why seven out of ten newly built homes also have their laundry room off the kitchen area.

You’ll definitely hear the exhaustion of a long day in my voice during this video, but don’t let that deter you from knowing I LOVE MY KITCHEN! We recently, as in one week ago, moved to a new home. We came from a traditional/formal floor plan with a private kitchen and formal dining room. Being in an open floor plan is just as lovely as my new slate sink and granite countertops. Almost function over aesthetics.

Here you go!  It's functional but far from what I would want.  The kitchen is often the last place we think to decorate or spamp with a personal "style."
